ARTIST BIO

Josephine (Josie) Starr, born and raised in Marshall Missouri began her dance training at

Broadway Bound Dance Studio under the direction of mentor Torey Spitzig. Josie graduated

with a B. F. A. in Dance and departmental honors from Webster University. She has had the

privilege of training with companies across the United States, some of them including Alonzo

King LINES Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Inaside Dance Chicago and Visceral

Dance Chicago. She continues her dance practice post college, performing professionally

throughout the Chicagoland area both in company and freelance form.

Josie’s passion for teaching began once she graduated from college and began working in the

industry. She works to create a safe and inclusive environment where students can explore their

creativity without fear or judgment. Her teaching practices center on fostering a supportive

atmosphere that encourages artistic expression and personal growth.

 

Josie wants to thanks everyone who continues to support her and her work with Visceral Dance

Youth Program. She looks forward to another season!
