IRINA SKARZYNSKA LAPTEVA

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

The newly appointed Executive Director of Visceral Dance Chicago, is a highly accomplished arts leader with nearly 20 years of experience in the performing arts and dance education. With a Master’s degree in Project Management from Moscow University and another in Leadership in the Arts and Entertainment Industries from the New York Institute of Technology, Irina seamlessly blends strategic vision and effective management in both the artistic and business aspects of the dance industry.

 

Throughout her career, Irina has held key leadership roles in prestigious organizations, including Managing Director of CityDance Conservatory at Strathmore for six years and Education Program Director at Brighton Ballet Theater in New York City for eight years. She has worked as a consultant for various dance companies and ballet competitions, helping to create new educational programs and development strategies.

 

A former professional ballerina and an indigenous Sakha from Siberia, Irina is deeply committed to promoting diversity, equity, and cultural exchange within the arts community. Irina actively represents the Sakha Diaspora in America by advocating for Siberian indigenous culture and arts. Irina is also an active member of the Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) and the International Dance Council (CID UNESCO).

 

Driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit and passion for community building, Irina believes in the transformative power of the arts to unite people and inspire change. Irina is committed to advancing Visceral Dance Chicago’s mission and expanding its impact on the contemporary dance scene. When not immersed in her professional pursuits, Irina enjoys rock climbing, acro yoga, teaching pilates, and, of course, dance.
